The race starts in the heart of Salzburg’s Old Town. You’ll cross the river Salzach, run through the narrow, cobblestoned Steingasse, and turn onto the Basteiweg. From there, the trail leads you along the historic city wall and up the Kapuzinerberg via the Imberg Steps – a total of 1,718 (!) stairs to conquer. At the top, you’ll be rewarded with a spectacular view of Salzburg and its iconic fortress. The course then eases up for a short while, with a flowing trail guiding you further along the city wall. Soon you’ll climb higher on the Kapuzinerberg, where fast ups and downs on mostly technical singletrails keep things exciting. Gradually, the Gaisberg comes into view. After a short passage through the Gnigl district, the long ascent of Salzburg’s local mountain awaits. Steep alpine trails, short sections on the popular Gaisberg circuit trail, and finally a winding, serpentine climb lead you to the summit. All the way, breathtaking views accompany your effort. Reaching the top of the Gaisberg, you’ve made it – the finish line is yours!
