Let’s be honest – who can truly say they’ve ever run through a fortress? Only those who have taken part in this unique race.

Just like the Sparkasse Panoramatrail, the adventure kicks off with a sightseeing tour through Salzburg’s Old Town before heading up the Mönchsberg. But on the Fortress Trail, you have two full laps to soak in the breathtaking views. Along this panoramic path, Salzburg reveals its many faces: to the west, vistas of the Hohen Staufen; to the south, the mighty Untersberg and the Tennengebirge.

In addition to this one-of-a-kind 360° panorama, you’ll also pass cultural landmarks such as the Nonnberg Abbey and the Stupa statue on the Mönchsberg. After your second lap, the course turns directly into the Festungsgasse, setting you up for what may be the most extraordinary kilometer you’ve ever run. A steep climb up the Michael-Haydn-Stiege leads you to the first castle gate. Another short but steep ascent takes you through the “Höllenpforte” (Hell’s Gate) and straight into the heart of Hohensalzburg Fortress.

Narrow castle alleys, towering archways, cannon passages, and cloisters make this trail run truly one of a kind. You’ll have the rare chance to race through medieval castle sections usually closed to visitors. And then comes the final highlight: one last spiral staircase spits you back into the inner courtyard, where a spectacular fortress finish line awaits!

Charity

Suzuki Austria donates € 5 per registration for the Fortress Trail (including Trail Amadeus and Trail Marathon) to the organization WALK’N’ROLL.

WALK’N’ROLL supports physically disabled people in turning their visions into reality in a sustainable way.

The organization’s goal is to improve the coexistence of disabled and non-disabled people. They aim to reduce fears and set meaningful examples. People with disabilities need perspectives and acceptance; pity does not create visions, but acceptance – combined with the realization of those visions – does.

The face and driving force behind WALK’N’ROLL is Thomas Geierspichler, multiple Paralympic champion and world record holder, who has inspired many through his successes in wheelchair racing. Thomas is a person who lives the fulfillment of his visions and serves as a motivation for others. Visionary thinking has always shaped his life, making him not only successful in sports but also strong as a person.
